The Green Collar Worker Program
A Program of The PRO HUMAN Foundation
The Green Collar Worker Program is an innovative employment and training program which
trains individuals, creates jobs and promotes environmental sustainability. It addresses the
needs of the under-employed and the unemployed while meeting critical issues facing our
environment and identifies an important third sector, green collar, to the blue and white collar
employment concept.
The goal is to build a paid workforce of individuals educated and trained in vegetation
management and associated environmental issues and practices. This program is an
employment and natural resource conservation model, combining the needs for a clean and
productive environment with job development, education, and employment opportunity and is
adaptable to urban, rural and metropolitan areas. The success of this program depends on
the inter-relationship of public, private and community based organizations focused on
achieving the combined goals of education, employment and environmental issues.
Specifically, the Green Collar Worker Program is comprised of the following components:
Education and Training Programs leading to Employment Opportunities creating
Products through Resource Recovery and Loss Prevention methodologies.
A unique feature of the program is the development of products generated from environmental
projects, which will be sold to support the program. In addition, the curriculum, on-site training
methodologies and employment component can be replicated in any urban, metropolitan or
or rural area for short and long-term project applications.
